Port of Roenne selected as service hub by VBMS
Port of Roenne has been selected by VBMS as the service hub for the execution of its cable-laying activities for the Arkona Wind Farm project in the Baltic Sea.
From April to September 2018, VBMS will install the cables connecting the 60 offshore turbines on the Arkona offshore wind project. Various kinds of vessels will be engaged in the operations related to the laying of the array cables. The Arkona Wind Farm project (a Joint Venture of E.ON and Statoil) is located between the German island Rügen and the Danish island Bornholm.
"Last year VBMS tested the capabilities of Port of Roenne and the level of service for a limited period and they experienced how service-orientated and flexible our organization is as well as how the related companies on the island operates. We are proud of being able to contribute to generate value to VBMS. They have now seen the great potential of working more closely together with us," says Ulla Kiersgaard, Manager of Business Development at Port of Roenne A/S.
Quick infrastructure, good prices & flexible services
According to VBMS Works Manager Emile van der Heide it was especially the smooth infrastructure and the efficient service level that raised their interest:
"When we executed the first phase of our cable installation works for the Arkona offshore wind farm, we discovered great logistical advantages that Bornholm, and in particular Roenne, have to offer. The good flight- and ferry connections, accommodations and a high-end hospital, made us choose Port of Roenne. Our experience is that parties such as the port authority, BHS and Sydhavnens Motorværksted are willing and able to assist us on a very short notice "and in this industry reliability and service are key."
When the on- and offshore staff starts in April 2018 it will create good conditions for the Bornholm business community.
"Many of their staff will need some accommodation. They will use the local restaurants and grocery stores and so on. The local maritime companies have already shown that they are ready - when needed.
